Can you remember the last time you saw someone Go Live on Instagram and utilize the slide feature? It’s probably not that often or maybe even NEVER!
This amazing feature is just one way to help make your brand STAND OUT in a sea of sameness!
Plus adding in the visual interest with slide graphics helps to break up the monotony of just being a “talking head” for the entire live video and the longer you can not only capture someone’s attention but RETAIN it longer, the more impact you can make with your live video messaging!
In the detailed video below and in this blog show notes, I break down Step-By-Step:
- How To Use The Greatly Underutilized Slide Feature On Instagram Live,
- How To Create Your IG Slides So You Do NOT Block Important Information
- Instagram vs Facebook Live: The Marketing Strategies To Consider As A Smart, Savvy, Strategic Business Owner
*Attention Android users*- I got a couple messages letting me know this feature is NOT available on the Android Instagram app. Sadly, this is often the case with any new social media platform (took over 2 years for IG to open to Android, same with Facebook, Periscope and Clubhouse just to name a few off the top of my head).
One solution is to use an iPad or borrow/buy an older iPhone. Did you know that you do NOT need to have an iPhone on a data plan to use any of the apps? That’s right! As long as you’re able to connect to the internet, you can use it. So hit up your Apple product loving friends or neighbors who probably have several older iPhones collecting dust in a drawer somewhere and ask to buy or borrow it so you don’t miss out on this awesome Instagram feature! Unfortunately, there are some features that NEVER get added to Android users like the mirror image/camera flip on Facebook Lives from the app. That’s been over 5.5 years of waiting and hoping it would finally be added. You’re a business owner! You don’t have that kind of time to wait!
Follow the super simple steps below to Go Live on Instagram and add in slides to add visual interest so that:
✅ You increase your view view retention rate (the GOLD standard for videos of any type),
✅ To drive home an important point you want your audience to remember,
✅ To deliver CTA’s (Call To Action) with specific direction that your audience will be sure to follow!
STEP 1: GO LIVE on Instagram. You can still only do this from a MOBILE device. (Live Demonstration at minute
6:15 in the video above)
Pro Tip! Close out all your other applications and make sure you have really strong internet connection. Get to a good spot, preferably as close to your modem or HARDWIRE to your mobile device with a direction connection through your ethernet cable and the correct dongle (connector) for your particular device.
Check out this blog all about how to insure you have clear, strong internet connection for all your important live videos and live launches including the tools I use and recommend!
STEP 2: Tap the Picture Icon on the top right hand corner to add slides.
Step 3: Select the Slide you want to share. Repeat step 3 to change and add in a new slide or to remove the slide from the live video.
Pro Tip! Make sure to add your slides into your camera roll and have them ready to go before you start your live. The last pictures you add to your camera roll are the ones that show up FIRST, at the top of your camera roll!
That’s it! How easy peasy is that?
NEXT UP: How to create and design your slides so that you do NOT block any important text or graphics with your picture-in-picture video (as show at minute 8:05)
The hot pink rectangle at the top right hand corner is where your video is displayed on IG Live as a “picture-in-picture”. Currently, there’s no way to remove your video or move it it to a different spot.
That’s why it’s so important to make sure you create your slides with the graphics and text around that video box area.
Also note you will have comments on the lower third of your screen and if you have a lot of live viewers who actively engage with comments, you definitely want to be mindful of keeping that area clear as well. Keep important text concentrated to the MIDDLE third of your live video “real estate”.
Pro Tip! I quickly and easily create all my slides on Canva whether it’s for my Facebook Lives or IG.
✅ For IG, make sure to use the full screen “Stories” size.
✅ For FB, I use the “Presentation” size for any full wide screen Keynote, Powerpoint, FB/Zoom Masterclass or when I’m speaking on stage in-person.

I cannot get an answer from meta! No photo gallery icon on my insta. I’ve downloaded new version of the app. Is it because I’m in an old iPhone?
