Why Collaborations Have Been a Cornerstone of My Business
Collaborations are something that I have done not just in my online business, but also in my offline business. Prior to building my online business, I had over 20 years of experience working in film, television, production, and commercials. I worked with some really big names behind the scenes before anybody even knew who the heck I was!
That’s why a cornerstone of my business has been collaborations because in the production world it’s all about co-creating. When I got to the online space I felt a little lonely. I didn’t want to be a lonely solopreneur so I knew early on that I needed to create that same sense of community that I had in the production world. I started linking arms with others in the online space which helped me not only grow my business but my brand! Collaborations allow you to do that too!
Why It’s Your Duty to Create the Things You Wish Existed
Here’s the thing, if something is missing in your life, do not sit around waiting for somebody else to create it! That thing that you want that is absent from your life, is probably something somebody else out there wants as well. We are here not by chance or by accident. It is your duty to follow that stirring in your belly and create the things you wish existed in the world.
Creating collaborations that really align with your business and your brand is essential as a business owner. That’s why I’m getting down to the nitty-gritty and sharing my 5 step process for creating amazing brand collaborations. I’m boiling all this down into very specific baby steps so that you can go learn the thing and then go do the thing!
My 5 Step Process to Create Amazing Brand Collaborations
#1: Make Your Dream List
Take a pen to paper and make a dream list of your top brands, live shows, podcasts, and event stages you WILL be on. I want you to research and list out at least 50. This is an important practice that I want you to continuously do as long as you are in business.
This is going to teach you how to accept a no. A no is a beautiful thing because no doesn’t mean no forever. It either means no, not right now or, that you need to position the collaboration in a way that it’s a no-brainer for the other person.
I want you to make it your goal to get to 100 no’s. When you go for those 100 no’s, you’re going to get to that one amazing yes! That yes will be the thing that opens up the door to more amazing opportunities.

#2: Go Above and Beyond
Go above and beyond to research, prepare, practice, and deliver! It’s not a matter of if, but when you get booked. You’re going to need to do your homework to figure out who their audience is so that you’re customizing your presentation to them.
The more stages you get on whether virtual or live is going to help you develop your signature talk. What’s a signature talk? Think of the topic that if I handed you a mic right now you could rift on for 15 minutes without having to create notes, slides, or a full presentation.
As you do this more regularly you’re going to refine your presentations and the ripple effect is that you’re not only going to get better when you’re collaborating but when you’re hosting your own live videos, masterclasses, and events!
#3: Become Buzzworthy
Being buzzworthy means that you create the reputation that you are an amazing collaborator that always comes prepared. That means every time you show up for a live video or speak on stage is another opportunity to get more eyeballs on you! So, you want to show up prepared.
Whether this is a presentation or masterclass, you want to make sure the parameters, guidelines, boundaries, and expectations are set before you get ready to do the thing. Doing this is how you build your brand reputation as an amazing collaborator that plans ahead and takes this collaboration seriously!
#4: Promote It Afterwards
This is a massive opportunity to share any screenshots, video clips, and reshares on social. Whenever I do a collaboration, I tell people exactly what I want them to do. Whether that is to share with friends or post on their IG stories, you have to be proactive and ask for the share!
Depending on the platform there is a really short shelf life. When people share out that collaboration it makes more content that everyone involved can reshare which keeps that content alive so much longer!
What I will sometimes do when I have an amazing public interview or masterclass that gets a ton of buzz, is create an ad to promote it. Now I don’t do this every single time. I do this when it’s mutually beneficial, it’s a great collaboration, and both of us can benefit from it!

#5: How to Get Great People to Collaborate On Your Platforms
Do you ever wonder how I get 5-7 high-level bonus guest experts inside my programs for every single launch? It’s because of the relationships that I have curated over the long run. I treat them just as I would if we were having a dinner party together and I’m invited as a guest into their home. When you take this approach can’t you see how much further and faster you build your platform?
If you show up authentic and are there to serve people, they are going to love you! They’re going to ask for a repeat performance, and you’re going to get rebooked to show up on other people’s platforms. Every time you get to collaborate make sure to show up authentically so that you can cultivate an amazing experience for each other’s audiences and students!
