For the past month i’ve had so many people both on social media and in person ask my opinion of the brand new It Cosmetics Hello Lashes Extensions Mascara and my answer was, I don’t have one because I haven’t tried it out yet! Well, I got a PR sample sent to me and i’ve been testing it out for the past week and a half. I have to tell you that I was quite hesitant to even try it because i’ve tried many other brands of fiber lashes and they were all very irritating to my ultra sensitive eyes. I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed but I don’t even apply any type of eye makeup whether it’s liner or mascara to my lower lash line. When I say my eyes are ultra sensitive, i’m not exaggerating and if you look in my handbag I have at least 2 different types of eye drops always with me. The irony, right?! Well, after reading the technology behind this mascara I decided to try it out for 1 day and then go from there if my eyes weren’t looking like a bloodshot mess. I’m happy to report that I’ve had ZERO negative reaction to the mascara formulation as well as no problems with the “extension” fibers flaking or falling into my eyes or on the tops of my cheek bones which is common with other brands!
So as always, here is my 100% honest review along with all the pros & cons. Oh, and i’ve shared many times in the past in various posts how I have like 9 eye lashes. I’m not kidding. I’d need an ultra high powered lens on a DSLR to capture any before/afters of my sad 9 lashes and my poor iPhone was not up to the job so one day on set, I recruited one of my gorgeous & brilliant friend who I work on a lot of video projects with, Lauren Muchko, and gave her a tube to try out as well and take some pics for me with her iPhone! Check out her results that she achieved with NO help from me! This is with her makeup done like always except the photos on the left show her with no mascara and on the right with the new Hello Lashes Extensions mascara! As you can see, the beautiful Ms. Lauren has pretty great natural lashes to begin with but PaPow! OMG! Seriously, the pictures do speak for themselves the difference with the right mascara.
The Pros:
- The formula really is different than other fiber extension mascaras out there because of the first-ever “melted fiber” technology which is why i’m guessing you don’t get the dreaded fiber flakes fall out like others and it did not both my eyes as mentioned above. Major bonus is surprisingly no clumping and definitely NO tarantula looking lashes.
- Lash-Loving Enhancing Ingredients include peptides, collagen, jojoba, green tea & vitamins A, C, E & B5. Maybe I should eat this, ha!
- The brush is fantastic! I actually took the original Hello Lashes Mascara without the fiber extensions, cleaned off the wand and use it with other (waterproof) formulas that I prefer…more on that later. As you can see from the picture below there’s a spiked ball on the end of the wand and it’s an amazing detailer and if you know me well you know i’m all about the details. It really targets even the tiniest inner corner lashes. *My application tip!* Apply the mascara like normal, holding the length of the wand horizontally on the top lashes, starting at the base and wiggling your way to the tip to wrap the mascara all the way around the lash and not just to the underside. Then turn the wand vertical and use the spiked ball tip to vertically lengthen and separate each lash. For bottom lashes, don’t apply with the length of the brush. That usually leads to messes. Instead turn the wand vertically and use the spiked ball tip to pull each individual lash down as you coat the lash. That will achieve far better separation and major lengthening similar to the look of adding individual false lashes which by the way are the most difficult type of falsies to apply! That spiked ball detailer is amazing! Even when your tube has run its course, save the wand!
- Major lengthening. As you can see from Lauren’s photos, her lashes practically reach her eye brows!
- Maintained my curl. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but i’m Asian 😉 I have the typical stick straight lashes and while I can get them to curl with a lash curler, the wrong formulation can make them fall flat immediately. For a non-waterproof formula, this one actually maintained my curl! Shocker!
The Cons:
- It’s not waterproof. Both Lauren and I agreed it would be a much better mascara if it were waterproof but keep in mind this is coming from two people who workout a lot. I don’t workout nearly as much as Lauren who is also a Master Trainer for BeachBody and a fitness professional. We both go to the same crazy, hard, steamy hot, indoor cycling classes too and I actually tested it out 4 times there. So here’s the thing and I posted a photo about this last week on my FaceBook page here. While it didn’t pass the white towel test meaning it did wipe off a bit, I didn’t look like an 80’s soap opera actress either with streams of black sweat running down my face. Over the last week and a half I wore it through a lot of different workouts and it’s definitely not workout proof, not that it claims to be, but I did find it to be very smudge-proof under normal, daily, non-crazy hot cycle class conditions.
- Great lengthening but not the best when it comes to volumizing. I can make my 9 puny lashes look like 30 with a great volumizing mascara and this one wasn’t the best in that category for me. Sorry, DiorShow Blackout Waterproof is still the winner when it comes to volumizing.
Overall, Lauren and I scored this mascara a 3.5 out of 5. We both agreed we would definitely continue to wear it on the days we workout early and then do our makeup afterwards but on a later workout day we definitely need a waterproof formula. In my long career as a makeup artist, I’ve noticed that women are “serial daters” when it comes to most beauty products except for their favorite mascara in which case most of us are completely monogamous and married to them 🙂 It’s true! Women are so passionate about their fav mascaras and for me, i’ll definitely keep this one in the mix but my go-to pick will still be DiorShow Blackout Waterproof. Hey, maybe i’ll try layering them together…hmmm…

I need to try that mascara out. I have an oily t-zone, so it seems ANY mascara, waterproof or not, runs on me. hellooooo alice cooper. LOL. Yes, I do use Dior show waterproof too. but I LOVE how the IT mascara made Lauren’s eyes look. Gonna have to order it and give it a try.
