I’m so excited to introduce to you Gleam by Melanie Mills! One of my favorite things about being a makeup artist is testing out and discovering new brands and innovative beauty products! I’m always on the search for the next best thing and my personal best discoveries usually come from smaller, newer lines that start off by doing a few things extremely well and Gleam definitely qualifies! Melanie Mills is an Emmy Award Winning makeup artist and was the head of the makeup department on Dancing With the Stars for many years. Many of her products that she created for Gleam were born right on the set of that show out of sheer necessity! For example, the Gleam Body Radiance Lotions came about because she needed a product that would tone down the orange of the spray tans and at the same time be long wearing and stayed on even when the dancers would start to sweat! If you’ve been reading my blog or we’ve been friends on social media for more than 10 minutes then you’d know how much I love body bronzing products! I’ve blogged before on some of the other amazing products I’ve used on various shoots and events and have mixed up my own concoctions to get it just right. Well, as crazy picky as I am the Gleam Body Radiance Lotions are heaven in a tube. They come in 4 different shades of gold so no matter how fair or deep your skin tone is there’s a perfect shade for you or you can choose a shade according to how subtle or dramatic you want the look. FYI, the Rose Gold is so freakin GORG!! Check out my quickie video below with all 4 colors swatches on my arm.

I have zero tan going on right now and naturally pretty pale. Not Snow White fair but usually I fall in the light to light/medium skin tone range. If I use the Light Gold or Rose Gold shades i’d get just a hint of a golden based tan with a lot of shimmer. If I chose the Bronze or The Deep Gold (love the Deep and it’s a staple in my pro kit) I’d get the look of a tan without having to spray tan myself. The deeper shades are also great to extend a spray tan! Compared to other shimmery temporary tan lotions out there I love that there are different shades to choose from, the easy blendability of Gleam and while I didn’t find them completely waterproof in my strenuous testing, I did find them very long wearing and the most transfer resistant of all the different brands I have. Just be extra cautious if you’re wearing pure white clothes. I recommend getting dressed first and then applying the Gleam lotion with a large velour puff. It will blend quickly and keep the palm of your hands from getting bronzed!
The Gleam Lip Radiance glosses have become a staple in my pro kit as well as for personal use. They have the most distinct texture i’ve ever tried in a lip gloss and I literally own hundreds! It’s not sticky but not so thin and runny that they easily bleed all over your face. Plus they are very pigmented so you don’t have to put lipstick underneath to get a full impact color!
I’m usually weary of using really bright colors, especially reds on long shoots where the talent will be talking a lot because it can be such a nightmare to keep in place. But just this week I used the shade With My Heels On which is a very blue pink (anything with a blue undertone will make your teeth appear whiter and brighter!) that can appear a touch red. I used a cherry red lip liner underneath to line and fill in to make the color appear more pinky-red and it stayed put through a very long, “direct to camera” shoot day where my client, Chalene Johnson talked a ton! I took this picture at the end of the shoot and it didn’t feather or bleed!
The Gleam brand currently has a few other products in the line including their Artist’s Palette which is my new palette that I use in my Pro Kit. It’s a clear acrylic and nearly double the size of my old staple stainless steel one. Plus it’s gorgeous! I’m seriously obsessed with it! They also have gorgeous, shimmery loose powders called Radiance Dust. I haven’t had a chance to experiment with these that much yet but I did use them as eye shadow to create a nude on nude bronzy look. Very JLo glow and you know how much I love that look! You can use these in a multitude of ways by dusting them on top of the Gleam lotions, mixing it with your own lotions, highlighting all over the body to accentuate the legs (just apply up and down the center of the legs. Old runway trick to make the legs appear longer and leaner!), the clavicles and décolleté area. Use the deeper shades to contour the muscles on your body especially abs! You can of course use them on the face as well for eyes, cheek bones and even mix with your lip glosses to create custom shimmery colors! Get super creative with it! The super luxe Face & Body Brush is the perfect tool to quickly apply the loose powders and I will bet it’s one of the most luxuriously soft makeup brushes you’ve ever felt! And let’s not forget Melanie’s book, Glitter & Glam which is a beautiful book that i’ve added to my collection of designer coffee table books that I look through for inspiration!
